Expands Shakespeare in Piedmont Park

Multi-year funding, new venue enable
Georgia Shakespeare to upgrade popular event

A $300,000 grant from The Charles Loridans Foundation will enable Georgia Shakespeare to expand their popular theatre production in Piedmont park for the next three years.

Formerly known as “Shake at the Lake,” the event has been renamed “Shake at the Park,” reflecting a move from the Lake Clara Meer location to the Legacy Fountain in the newly renovated Greensward area of the park. The shift to the new format represents a critical step forward for Georgia Shakespeare as it enters an important turn-around year, following a successful “Save Georgia Shakespeare” emergency funding campaign.

“We’re excited to help Georgia Shakespeare and the Piedmont Park Conservancy partner in a way that will help develop Shake at the Park into one of the signature events of Atlanta’s cultural year,” said Robert Edge who chairs the trustees for the Charles Loridans Foundation.

The new location will also be more enjoyable for those who attend. Parking is plentiful and easily accessible, with convenient restroom facilities.

William Shakespeare’s The Tempest will run May 9—13th, 2012 in Piedmont Park.
